The students prepared breakfast for 100 guests in the new kitchen as thanks for their support of the school during the past year.
“It was exciting using the new facilities,” year 12 student Hillary said.
“It showed the community that we’re capable of making restaurant-quality food.”
The new kitchen was part of a $15 million school upgrade.
It includes 10 gas hobs, commercial mixers and grills, as well as a professional-quality coffee machine.
Teaching staff are equally excited with the commercial kitchen that is on par with TAFE facilities.
“It takes a lot of effort to make a breakfast like this happen,” principal Michael Whiting told guests.
“A lot of the teachers were here at 4am and the students at 5am.”
Mr Whiting said that many community organisations had helped boost the educational outcomes of students through various programs.
“Fostering those quality community connections is part of today’s breakfast,” he said. “Today is about thanking many of the community partners who help the school.”
The school will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year when the upgrade is complete.
