The 12-year-old has recently found out she is going to lose her hearing and when she was told the diagnosis the first thing she said was: “I won’t be able to hear Taylor Swift sing.”
With a little help, her family managed to get her a ticket to the Sydney concert at the end of the month, but her twin sister Chloe wants to go one better.
She has launched a campaign to get Taylor Swift to meet Jorja when they girls are in Sydney for the concert.
The Mercury told Jorja’s story on Wednesday and by Thursday afternoon it had gone viral.
Fairfax newspapers as far as Wagga Wagga and Bendigo had posted the story to their websites.
Local radio station told listeners about the campaign and the hashtag #helpjorjameettaylorswiftsydney started to pop up frequently on Twitter.
Online publications such as social news website Buzzfeed also picked up the story nationally and the Mercury’s Facebook post about Jorja was shared across the globe by some helpful American online readers.
One of the Hopes’ family friends was sitting in the airport in Perth on Thursday watching the news and was shocked when Jorja’s story appeared on national television.
While the family is yet to hear from Taylor Swift, there is still plenty of time before the November 28 concert.
“I have always taught the girls to dream and that if you put your mind to it great things can happen,” their mother Melissa Hope said.
“Regardless of whether Jorja meets Taylor or not, the support that has been shown, firstly from our local community is incredible, the school, our local butcher, friends, family and strangers has been incredible.
“I am overwhelmed by the support. No words could ever thank each and every person that has shared, liked, tweeted or sent messages enough. You are all showing Jorja how much love and support she has around her.”
Help the campaign by sharing Jorja’s story online and using the #helpjorjameettaylorswiftsydney on any social media posts.
