I am proud to be the face of the Maitland Business Chamber, but there are so many more faces that make our network a thriving process of inspiration.
At the recent Maitland 2020 forum the group pondered the future of business in Maitland and how the next generation may work and, more importantly, operate a business.
A theme that developed was the fact that the millennials will be entrepreneurial, leveraging increasing technological advances and making the most of starting a small business in a place like Maitland that can impact the region and maybe the globe.
How can the chamber play a part in such a revolution? It comes back to the network. Inspirational leaders like Andrew Hughes, in my mind, will play a big role in the future of our region and the future of the next generation of entrepreneur. If you ever get the chance to grab a coffee with Andrew take it.
Andrew is a local businessman operating out of East Maitland but is fast becoming a globally recognised speaker having travelled to far corners as an expert in all things people and leadership.
Most within the chamber know of Andrew as he has spoken at the chamber, facilitated our forums and led the Maitland 2020 think tank. This is someone with the community at heart.
Currently acting in a non-paid role as the chairman of the Endeavour Group, a local not-for-profit group that enhances the lives of people from various walks of life. He is an active Rotarian and gives of his time freely to local schools and other charities.
Andrew is the kind of individual who makes our town so much richer .
It is really important to focus on your business and make it profitable to ensure you grow as a business owner – but the reality is as you grow, the people around you grow. The staff you hire, the customers you serve and hopefully the community you live within.
Andrew Hughes is successful, but I doubt he understands how important he is to our community. This will be another goal of the chamber moving forward, to ensure these kinds of champions are recognised and utilised to make Maitland the best place it can be.
