Beresfield woman Melanie Dyett was excited to get a new car, but was not sure how to sell her old faithful “shitbox”.
The 2001 Proton Persona had a few kinks but boy was it good at doing the most important thing – driving.
Ms Dyett decided honesty was the best policy and posted an unusual advertisement on a Facebook buy, swap, sell page.
“Interested in buying a shitbox car for $400 has rego 27/3/16 drives fine just has a lot of cosmetic problems like petrol gauge doesn’t always work but the light will come on when near empty.
“Back windows don’t go down, the driver window sometimes get stuck, the muffler is bent and makes a lil noise, there is a dent in the back of boot, aircon needs re-gassing will need a service but drives.”
The advertisement caught the attention of many amused Facebook users and got plenty of laughs at the Mercury office.
“It drives fine,” Ms Dyett said.
“But everything else about it makes it a shitbox, so I just thought I may as well put all the information out there.
“A lot of people were interested.”
She said every bump and bend told a story of her time driving the Proton, such as the bent muffler which happened when she reversed into her letterbox.
The honest advertisement definitely worked with a woman grabbing the bargain within hours of the Facebook post going online.
The buyer even made it Facebook official posting a photo of the car with the comment: “Look at my new baby, I’m so in love.”
