Thornton Park will look to consolidate their position in the Maitland and District Cricket Association top four approaching the midway point of the 2015-2016 season.
Fourth-placed Thornton travel to meet Kurri Weston at Kurri Central on Saturday and depending on results could finish round seven anywhere from second to fifth.
Thornton (17 points) sit four below Western Suburbs (21), three arrears of Raymond Terrace (20) and two in front of Northern Suburbs (15) on the overall first grade standings.
They definitely wouldn’t drop back if they are able to repeat last season’s victory at the same venue but a loss could see them slip back to fifth by the end of the weekend.
“They boys know how important this game is for us,” Thornton skipper Ricky Dent said.
“We want to stay in the top four and a win here would let us do that, but a loss could be a different story.”
Thornton are coming off the bye and will be without key all-rounders Ricky Mace and Jeremy Kirk.
Standing in their way will be Kurri Weston (11), who went down to Raymond Terrace on Saturday but won their Hunter Valley Cup Twenty20 pool on Sunday.
In the other one-day fixtures runaway leaders City (30) host Raymond Terrace at Robins Oval and Wests clash with Norths at Coronation Oval.
Matches start at noon.
Eastern Suburbs (6) have the bye.
In other cricket news Telarah and Clarence Town public schools will meet in the Reg Kelly Shield final at Robins Oval on Friday.
