Growing up the Stewart brothers played against one another in the backyard of their Lorn turf farm.
After coming through the Maitland junior ranks both Luke and Grant won first grade titles with Northern Suburbs in different seasons.
Last summer they had the chance to play together for the first time when lining up for University in Newcastle, which included a minor premiership and Twenty20 crown.
And now they will chase the holy grail of NSW Country cricket when they contest the championship final for Newcastle at No.1 Sportsground on Sunday.
“It makes it pretty special,” Luke said.
“I hadn’t played with Grant before last season and it has been great seeing him turn into the cricketer he is today.
“So to play club cricket together is one thing and rep is another, but with so much on the line in a final is even better.”
Luke was called into the Newcastle side this week after strong showings with the bat, including a century and a 200-run partnership with fellow Maitland product Tim Prescott recently.
Grant put himself into contention for NSW Country selection in Gunnedah a fortnight ago after taking a combined 6-55 inside 25 overs from three preliminary round matches and he will try to continue that form against Southern-ACT this weekend.
In other representative cricket news Maitland juniors Pat Magann, Jono Maloney and Jayden Park will line up for ACT-NSW Country under 19s at the National Championships in Adelaide from Monday.
