Beresfield went down to Raymond Terrace at home on Wednesday night, just five days after clinching first place on the competition ladder in the final round.
The Magpies now get a second bite at the cherry on Friday night when they host the Charlestown Tigers, who beat Ettalong during the week.
“It’s sudden death for us now,” Beresfield skipper Warren Shipley said.
“We weren’t good enough and they played well, which is all you need when you’re playing against the defending champions and zone two flag holders.”
Shipley was leading in the first set of the tie break against Jason Stokes but was not required to finish after both his pairs and triples combinations were defeated.
Shipley said he was now contemplating a change in line up, moving NSW senior representative Mick Beesley to the pairs in front of Daniel Hill.
Friday night’s other elimination battle has Maitland City pitted against Kurri Kurri after contrasting results.
Maitland City lost on the road to East Cessnock on Wednesday night, just the Hunters second defeat in 12 weeks, and Kurri Kurri clocked up their seventh straight win by accounting for Nelson Bay.
Play starts at 6pm.
The next round of semi-finals will take place on December 3 and 4.
The decider will be held on December 11 at East Cessnock.
