“All of the moustaches were at different levels of seediness,” retained firie Darren Lancaster said.
“But we raised a couple of hundred dollars over our goal, which was a good result.”
Nine retained firies from Maitland station signed up for the Movember challenge.
Midway through they were already fed up with the upper-lip hair, but they hung in there for the full month.
The team, made up of eight men and one woman, aimed to raise $500, but was already at $700 by Monday.
They signed up for Movember to promote men’s health because a lot of men in the emergency services suffered from illness such as post traumatic stress disorder, but found it hard to talk about.
“If nothing else it got our station talking about the subject of men’s health,” Mr Lancaster said.
“People were sharing their stories and just talking about it.”
Retained firefighter Tanya Coxon was the only woman on the team.
But because of a lack of whiskers she raised money by committing to 40 physical movements per day, such as jumps, leaps, steps and more.
Mr Lancaster, Simon Coggan, Brad Miles, Matt Knox, Pat Levesque, Nathan Crotty, Dan Coutts and Mark Hardy have been happily anticipating shaving off their itchy, hot moustaches on Tuesday.
Mr Lancaster said he believed his moustache was definitely the most impressive.
