But the city has still dropped in the consumer watchdog’s weekly price rankings of 54 regions across the state.
The average price of regular unleaded fuel was cheaper in Newcastle than Maitland during the week ending November 29, the new data showed, for the first time in several weeks.
Maitland dropped six places in the rankings to 26th place, after it was ranked second in the state early last month.
The price of unleaded fuel was 128c/l for the week ending November 29 in Maitland, while the same product cost motorists 127.4c/l in Newcastle, 133.8c/l in Singleton and 127.9c/l on the Central Coast.
Maitland recorded an average of 128c/l the previous week, after the price jumped from an average of 115.5c/l in early November.
Last week, Bega bumped Leeton from the state’s top position with an average of 116.1c/l and Gundagai recorded the most expensive average petrol price in NSW again, at 143.9c/l.
