The new national competition starts this weekend and the Thunder are due to play Sydney rivals the Sixers at Penrith’s Howell Oval on Sunday.
Already this summer Gibson has been training as part of the extended NSW women’s squad.
She continues to oversee an all-girl team called the Flamingos in the Maitland under 16s each Saturday morning.
Last season the 19-year-old created history by becoming the first female to play in the Maitland district first grade competition.
Gibson joins fellow spinners Sam Bates and Tamworth’s Erin Osborne in the Thunder squad.
The Thunder’s captain will be Australian representative Alex Blackwell.
