But The Beez were never really trying to follow convention.
The Berlin-based folk cabaret band will bring their unique live show to the historic Woodville Hall on Friday, February 26.
The band plays a mix of originals and covers drawing from a more diverse palette of styles than you’d find if SBS took over Triple J.
Founder Rob Rayner grew up on Sydney’s North Shore before moving to Berlin in 1989.
He formed The Beez in 1997 with his accordion-playing wife Deta.
On paper, Stand By Your Man performed in the style of a Turkish folk band, might not sound like everyone’s cup of tea.
But after two decades of playing together The Beez don’t sound like a comical cover band relying on absurd juxtapositions – they sound great.
The band began touring Australia’s folk festival circuit in 2005 and have returned almost every year since.
Local artists Matty and Matt Clarke and Maitland rock ‘n’ roll icon Bob Campbell will warm the crowd up.
The concert takes place on February 26 from 7pm at the Woodville Hall. Early bird tickets will cost $20 per adult, $50 per family with children under 12 free.
