The 10-year-old, who honed her craft in a tiny paddock in Horseshoe Bend, took out the title of Arabian Riding Pony Gelding Senior Champion at the 2016 Arabian East Coast Championships last month.
The championships are the biggest event on the Arabian riding calendar and hundreds of riders from across the state descended on the Sydney International Equestrian Centre to compete.
“It was really exciting,” Olivia said. “I was scared but I tried to sit up straight and concentrate on doing a lot of things at the same time.”
When the results came back, Hum had success across numerous events in the Youth Ring.
She had been awarded the Reserve Champion in the Hunter pony and bridle path 10 classes for the under 14s. She also placed top five in the derivative, pony hack and rider divisions.
Softly spoken Olivia has been riding since the age of two and said she hoped to compete in the Olympics when she’s older.
Despite her success at the championships, she said her driving reason to compete was to have fun with her horse.
