Tori Covic from Seaham, Alexis Adams from Loxford, Miranda O’Brien from Millers Forest, and Jessica Allen from Narang, mingled with dignitaries at the function while judges made notes on poise, etiquette and confidence.
Showgirl organiser Margaret Enright said judges would have a difficult task coming up with a winner, which will be announced at the Maitland Show’s official opening on Saturday afternoon.
“I was thrilled to bits,” Ms Enright said. “Anyone would be happy to crown any of the girls Miss Maitland.”
The girls also faced challenging questions about their personal and political views on subjects ranging from what issues they’d take to Parliament to what they’d do with Johnny Depp’s dogs.
“Three of the girls have entered the competition before, but their improvement since last time has been outstanding,” Ms Enright said. “The other girl has been around shows all her life, she’s been involved with the riding and her grandfather has a history with the show, so she was as good as the others.”
The Maitland Show will open this Friday, February 19, and will run until Sunday, February 21.
