Maitland Regional Art Gallery officials won several pieces of Darcy memorabilia for the city, during an auction held in Sydney on Saturday.
MRAG cultural director Brigette Uren said the gloves, newspaper articles and an original signed postcard were among the items the gallery bought for the city’s Les Darcy collection.
Ms Uren would not say how much the gallery paid for the items, but she said the financial outlay was less than expected.

The gloves are expected to be of particular interest to boxing enthusiasts and Maitland’s history.
“The value these items add to the collection is without a price tag,” Ms Uren said.
“It’s fantastic that these items are being returned to the city.
“The gloves, by today’s standard, are not heavily padded and you can see that they are made from old leather.
“I think it’s particularly unique to have the training gloves, not the championship gloves.
“He wore these day in and day out during that period.”
