A contingent of NSW Rugby League legends including Brad Fittler, Nathan Hindmarsh, Matt Cooper, Steve Menzies, Josh Perry, Steve Roach and Ian Schubert stopped in to several Hunter schools as part of the fourth annual Hogs For The Homeless charity motorcycle ride.
All of the money from the motorcycle tour raises awareness and funds for Father Chris Riley's Youth Off the Streets and also supports junior rugby league clubs.
"I was very lucky I had a good mum who looked after us and I never had to worry about being homeless," retired league player Josh Perry said.
"But not everyone is that lucky so it is really important to get the word out about Father Chris Riley's Youth Off the Streets."
The 'hogs' rolled in to Rutherford on their motorbikes in time for a morning assembly before heading over to Cessnock to run a football clinic.
Dressed in their leathers they took questions from a bemused crowd of students who asked everything from 'how many tries have you scored?', to 'does it hurt playing football?'.
Children lined up afterwards to get autographs and a big tub of money was handed over to the group as a donation towards the charity.
"Homelessness is prevalent, especially in country towns, so it is important that we get out to these places and speak to the kids," Perry said.
The charity ride started on February 15 and will take in 17 country towns across the state.
