The 28-year-old had a chance to snatch a win for the Knights in the last second of golden point but his field goal attempt from near half-way fell well short.
It was the first draw in the NRL since an 18-all stalemate between the Knights and Broncos in round 21 of the 2013 season.
Before Mullen’s last-ditch effort, Knights halfback Trent Hodkinson and his opposite Sam Williams each missed with three attempts at field goal.
The Knights, trailing 18-6 with 20 minutes to go, appeared down and out before staging a miraculous come back.
Debutant Cory Denniss (two) and Pat Mata’utia scored converted tries to put the home side in front 24-18. But a late Brenko Lee try and Jarrod Croker conversion squared things up.
