The team including Snap Fitness owner Cameron Russell, manager Demi Greentree and trainers Adrian Cunningham and Luke Merchant, has been training for the past four months for the May 1 event in Port Macquarie.
“One day I came into work and asked Demi if she would be interested in doing a half-Ironman,” Cunningham said.
“She said yes without even knowing the distance and it has continued from there.”
The half-Ironman consists of 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride and 21km run.
Sunday’s Maitland Triathlon Club event is a more gentle 450m swim, 18km ride and 4km run in the seniors, with shorter junior and intermediate distances.
The event is a come-and-try day with all age groups welcome. Juniors start at the eastern side of Maitland Park from 7am. Entry is $5.
There will be a free barbecue breakfast.
