Four days after a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy overdosed at the Groovin’ the Moo festival in Maitland, the festival organisers have released a statement reminding attendees to “look after themselves, their friends and other Moo patrons”.
The two teens have both since been released from hospital.
“We’re very thankful to the many service providers who are an integral part of each Groovin’ the Moo event,” the statement read.
“Groovin’ the Moo takes the responsibility of patron care seriously. Our systems are developed in consultation with our service providers.
“We acknowledge several media reports with regards to the welfare of patrons and conduct of security and emergency service providers at both Groovin’ the Moo Maitland and Canberra.
“Groovin the Moo believes all actions taken by service providers were delivered in the best interest of Groovin The Moo patrons.”

A woman who claimed she was urinated on during the Canberra Groovin’ the Moo music festival criticised the response of security guards as “patronising” and “inadequate”.
“We were enjoying ourselves when I noticed a man come up behind me and I thought I sensed something that he was fiddling with his penis and unfortunately I started feeling urine running down my leg,” Joana Perkins told the ABC.
She reportedly accused security of threatening to make her leave the festival, and of telling her that she was “at fault” for bringing her children to the event.
