Previously, representatives from 12 Pacific Island nations used traditional canoes to blockade the world’s largest coal port at Newcastle. This year, a highly-organised protest targeting the coal industry will be held in Newcastle as part of an “international wave” of climate action.
The joint campaign under the banner Break Free, and supported by Greenpeace and climate action group 350.org will focus on Newcastle to disrupt exports from the world’s largest coal port on May 7 and 8.
