The federal funding will be made available to Maitland City Council to commence work to close one leg of the intersection, install new curve and advisory signs and vehicle activated signs, improve turning facilities at the T-junction and upgrade from giveway to stop.
Federal member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie inspected the site on Monday.
“It is one of those awkward intersections that does generate some degree of confusion and the works proposed by council will certainly go some way to addressing potential accidents,” Dr Gillespie said.
In the Dungog shire, a section of Clarencetown Road north of Timber Top Road at Glen Oak will undergo a $460,000 upgrade including improvement to the road shoulder, installing wire rope barrier on the roadside, installing road feature signs and retro reflective pavement markers.
The federal government will also provide a further $399,000 to upgrade a section of Dungog Road north of Horns Crossing Road at Martins Creek.
“I’d like to congratulate both councils on putting forward these projects forward for consideration under the Federal Road Black Spots Programme,” Dr Gillespie said.
“I’m delighted our local road network will be a little safer thanks to this work.”
