The Defence Community Organisation makes teddy bears that boast the uniforms of the army, navy and air force. The bears are given to young children when their parent is deployed.
It also has a range of children’s books to help them learn about military lifestyle and cope with the absence of their parent.
The books include the Sapper Pat, Pepper Penguin and Tyler Turtle series.
Teddy bear Sapper Pat looks at overseas Army postings, while cuddly penguin Able Seaman Pepper Penguin travels the world on Navy ships. Tyler Turtle is for younger children and looks at how he copes with his mother’s absence and being relocated to a new reef.
TeenSMART and KidSMART workshops are also held to help people under 18 manage deployment and relocation issues.
