The Maitland Grossmann squad included Endeavour Rowing Club members Carter Ward, Brendan Budworth, Robert Weatherall, Jack Davey and Bec Davey.
The students claimed trophies in the champion men’s quad scull, men’s under-17 single scull and men’s under-17 double scull.
The heats and semi-finals were conducted on Saturday with the Inter-regional 8+ as the last event of the day.
Bec Davey and Ward both reached the semi-finals of their single scull events but did not progress to the finals. All of the other Maitland Grossmann entries earned their way into Sunday’s finals.
After all heats and semi-finals had been completed on Saturday afternoon, the inter-regional eights race was conducted.
The Hunter region eight included Bec Davey as coxswain, Budworth as stroke and Jack Davey, Weatherall and Ward in the seven, six and five seats.
The Hunter crew took third place giving each of the five Maitland crew members a bronze medal.
The first event for all five Endeavour rowers on Sunday was the champion men’s quad scull with the crew of Ward, Jack Davey, Weatherall, stroke Budworth and Bec Davey in the coxswain seat.
Maitland Grossmann led all the way to win by a considerable margin. Over the past three years, the Maitland Grossmann rowers have won events in the Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17 age groups but this is the first time the school has won a senior championship event.
With only half an hour between start times, Jack Davey and Weatherall jumped out of the quad scull, straight into the double scull and rowed back to the start for the men’s under-17 double scull event which they won with ease.
Having won the corresponding under-16 event last year and having won a bronze medal at this year’s national championships, the duo were favourites.
Before the champion men’s single scull final, Budworth had paramedic treatment for a muscle problem in his arm that had troubled him in the semi-final on Saturday.
The problem persisted in the final and Budworth finished out of the placings.
In the men’s under-17 single scull final, Jack Davey led from the start to win with Weatherall second.
The final event for the Endeavour squad was the champion men’s double scull in which Ward and Budworth involved in a close tussle for second place.
The boys’ efforts earned Maitland Grossman second place in the boys’ pointscore at the titles.
