Newcastle rider Jason Doyle got his World Speedway Grand Prix season off to an excellent start in the opening round of the 2016 Championship at Krsko, Slovenia.
Doyle finished second in the A Final to Denmark’s Peter Kildemand with fellow Australian and former World Champion, Chris Holder taking third place.
The second round of the World Speedway Championship will be held at Warsaw in Poland on Saturday, May 14
Doyle was then back in action in the UK for Swindon in the British Elite League Championship against Coventry on Monday.
He finished with 11 points, second top score to Pelaw Main’s Rohan Tungate who amassed 13 points.
It was Tungate’s best performance for Swindon and backed up on two solid outings for his Premier League club Somerset helping them to two straight wins.
Maitland’s Alex Davies shook off the disappointment of failing to score in Scunthorpe’s loss to Berwick in the British Premier League Championship with a top score performance in the first leg clash against Newcastle in the Premier League Cup Knockout competition.
Davies scored 10 points and has Scunthorpe well placed for the second leg clash in Newcastle (UK).
Mason Campton’s well earned 9 points for Workington – second top score - was not quite enough in their clash with Rye House in the Premier League Championship.
Workington went down by just one point, but Campton was pleased with his return to form.
Sam Masters from Newcastle (NSW) contributed a very valuable 8 points for Elite League club Wolverhampton in their big win over Poole.
Masters will be all out to continue that good form when he competes in a qualifying round for the 2017 World Speedway Grand Prix.
He rode in the Australian Speedway Grand Prix at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne last October as an Australian wild card entry but he has the opportunity to secure a place in next year’s Grand Prix line up at King’s Lyn in the UK this Saturday night.
