The Pickers scored 30 points in a brilliant second-half effort controlled by halfback Cal Edwards at Maitland Sportsground on Sunday.
Luke Mercer and Tylar Carter both scored doubles, with Liam Faughlin, Zeb Luisi and Jarrod Smith also crossing the line for Maitland.
Edwards kicked five goals, after taking over the kicking duties from wing Josh Morrison who was taken from the ground with a shoulder injury.
“To lose our kicker and to be down to three on the bench from the 10-minute mark was a terrific effort,” Pickers coach Trevor Ott said.
“When they scored virtually straight after the second half to go 24-8, we just dug deep and our ball movement was the best we’ve produced all year.
“It’s a relief for all of us to finally get a win. The players have worked so hard all year without any luck, this is a reward for all that effort.
“To do it against probably the best form side in the league is unbelievable.”
Ott brought Luke Mercer into the line-up to play at centre and add experience and talk on the ground.
When Morrison was injured he moved Jayden Rosberg to centre and Mercer to the wing.
The combination combination wreaked havoc on South’s defence in the final 40, with Mercer named players’ player.
Tylar Carter continued his strong from and was rewarded with two tries.
