Highway Ford and Hyundai in Rutherford has donated more than $457,000 to Maitland organisations since its Mates in Action initiative began in 2007, including $100,100 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter’s Maitland Support Group.
The service held a celebratory afternoon tea at the Broadmeadow base on Wednesday to thank dealer principal Greg Armstrong for the contribution the business had made.
The business donates $100 from every new or used car sold and asks the buyer to choose an organisation from a list of 20.
The list includes public schools in the Maitland area, the Salvation Army, the SES and the Lions Club of East Maitland.
The buyer can put their name to the donation or remain anonymous.
Dealer principal Greg Armstrong said the business wanted to give back to the community and most buyers wanted to give to the helicopter.
“It’s the most popular charity on the list, it touches a lot of people’s lives and it’s well recognised in the community,” he said.
“People like knowing where their donations are going and they know what the money will be used for.
“It’s also a way the business can give back to the local community.”
