The event previously took place in the old mall, but last year’s run had to be detoured while construction of the Levee took place.
Organiser Paul Humphreys from H Events said this year’s track would allow spectators to get close to the action and provide a picturesque view for participants.
He expects 600 to 700 participants to participate across the four, eight and 12 kilometre events, with about a dozen people doing all three. The Maitland Mile will also attract some fast feet, with previous events being won in under five minutes.
The oldest competitors are 84-year-old Betty Maxwell and 79-year-old Maureen Humphreys, who entered the four kilometre run.
The pair keep pretty fit between regular walks and chasing the grandchildren and are looking forward to getting in and having a go.
“Use it or lose it,” Mrs Humphreys said.
Online entries closed yesterday, but entries will be taken on the day.
