Senator Fifield who holds the federal portfolios of Minister for the Arts and Minister for Communications was in Maitland yesterday supporting Liberal candidate for the seat of Paterson Karen Howard.
The senator, who has visited Maitland previously as Minister for Disabilities and Aged Care, said the gallery is a fine example of how a community and the government could work together.
“Maitland Regional Art Gallery is a highly regarded and recognised cultural institution,” he said.
“I’m here because I want to talk to its administrators on how they have achieved what they have and possibly see Maitland used as a model for other regional galleries across Australia.”
During his visit, Senator Fifield also announced that the Paterson Valley would no longer be a mobile blackspot with funding granted for a new mobile base station which should be operational later this year.
