Wood is currently competing in the European GT4 Championship in the Reiter Young Stars Series.
So far she has competed in two races of the series in a KTM X-BOW GT4.
In her first race in Monza, Italy her Reiter Engineering team placed 13th out of 27.
They improved in the second round in Pau, France to finish 8th out of 24 and third in the Reiter Young Stars class.
From these results Wood is currently leading the Reiter Ladies Championship with three rounds remaining.
If she comes out on top in the women’s competition, Wood will receive a free season in a Lamborghini in The Blancpain Sprint Cup next year.
Not bad for someone who has only been able to legally drive on the road for three years.
Wood’s involvement in motor sport started with go-karts at the age of seven.
She then made her way into Formula Ford racing then onto the Formula 4 class before striking a deal with Reuter Engineering to compete in Europe this year.
Despite being only 19, Wood said there were competitors in the sport younger than her and that she had to wait to finish school to get her start.
The sport isn’t for the faint-hearted either – Wood said she reaches speeds of up to 250km per hour.
“It’s such an intense sport,” she said.
“It takes so much out of you mentally and physically.”
It also takes a lot out of the drivers financially, so Wood is holding a fundraiser to get her back over to Europe for the rest of the season.
The event will take place this Friday night at East Maitland Bowling Club. Contact Caitlin on 0478500677 for further details.
