“It exceeded our expectations. We raised about $4000 and we’re very excited,” the school’s P&C president Allison Fittler said.
“And although raising the money was nice, that wasn’t our priority. The priority was to see the smiles on the faces of the kids, and see the kids having fun with their families.”
The event was organised as a morale booster for the school which endured a tough 2015 during which the school hall was destroyed by fire, and classrooms damaged by storms.
The colour run saw children and their families (wearing mostly white) run several laps of a course through the school grounds where they were sprayed with cornstarch coloured with food dye.
“The children were very excited to see the teachers and principal [Nick Walker] taking part,” Ms Fittler said.
“And I just loved the fact that we had grandparents, parents and even toddlers all getting involved.”
Ms Fittler said the school’s special needs children also had fun participating.
The event might also prove to be the template by which other local schools host colour runs. Ms Fittler said the Lakes Mail’s story previewing the event prompted inquiries from neighbouring local schools.
