Bennett, who lives at Tenambit, started out at with the greyhounds as an office assistant, and has held the position of manager for the past three years.
It was always something Bennett was going to be involved in, with her father having greyhounds while she was growing up and her husband becoming involved in the club before her.
Her family has been associated with Maitland Greyhounds for about 25 years, and Bennett’s two children Jamie and Kylie have also worked at the Bloomfield Street track.
The outgoing manager said there were several highlights during her time with the club, including hosting three Gold Cup events, and a countless number of weekly and bi-weekly track meetings.
“I’ve seen quite a few dogs go round,” she said.
Bennett was also instrumental in upgrading and implementing many facilities at the grounds, including new swab kennels, a new tar road and improved lighting and sprinkler systems.
She said she has built a good rapport with staff and made many great friends throughout the greyhound industry.
But personal reasons have prompted her to retire, and she said it is time for her to leave and to get some new ideas into the club.
Bennett said it was sad to be saying goodbye, but that she is confident the club will continue to do well being steered by new manager Tony Edmunds.
“I think I’m leaving it in good hands,” she said.
Tomorrow afternoon will be Bennett’s last meeting, which features a blockbuster program of racing.
The match-up between the Robert Mccolm-trained Mr Shire and the Ray Morris-trained Duck's Luck promises to be a beauty when they compete in the 565 metre event.
Mr Shire, the focus of some big money offers after some sizzling 600 metre runs at The Gardens and Gosford in recent weeks, has box one while Maitland specialist Duck's Luck has drawn box eight.
The pair are expected to attract strong support from punters but they won't have it all their own way with Wentworth Park winners Cobber In Motion (box three) and Fabulous Five (box four) also in good form going into the race.
Maitland Greyhound Club's sponsorship and promotions manager Fred Robertson's best bet for the 11-race meeting is the Jason Mackay-trained Veetee Swift in race four.
The first race starts at 3.37pm.
