Five poles were purchased earlier in the year, and decorated in the April School holidays with the help of some local Aboriginal artists.
Children from the Early Learning Centre got involved in the decoration, along with staff and families who attend the centre.
Maitland Family Support manager Robbie King said the idea is to acknowledge that the centre is on Wonnarua land and to make it more inviting to the entire community.
“I liked the idea of making it a welcome space,” Ms King said.
The poles were then installed by staff from Bunnings Maitland.
A celebration of the installation was held last Wednesday, which involved music and dancing and a barbecue lunch.
