A range of winter vegetables will be on hand to bring some inspiration back into your kitchen and entice your taste buds with delicious recipes to warm your soul.
Seven farmers, and a few backyard growers, will have freshly picked produce to sell between 8am and 12 noon outside Millers in the Maitland mall.
Slow Food Hunter Valley leader and market organiser Amorelle Dempster said shoppers could expect cauliflowers, cabbages, spinach, kale, broccoli, potatoes and pumpkins as well as a range of salad greens and citrus.
“It’s soup weather and the fresh winter vegetables will make tasty soups,” she said.
The market will feature a crop of tangelos for the first time. A tangelo is a cross between a mandarin and a grapefruit and is believed to be the a very juicy and tasty fruit.
“It’s a beautiful orange colour and a whole tree of them are just ready,” Ms Dempster said.
Ms Dempster will also bring her own tumeric crop to the market.
She said fresh tumeric offered huge health benefits to people and could be used to make a tasty drink.
Shoppers must bring their own bags to carry their produce.
