If the 2011 performances of Costello and his legendary backing band - keyboardist Steve Nieve, drummer Pete Thomas and bassist Davey Faragher - are anything to go by, fans can expect a hit-laden set that includes singles Pump It Up, Oliver's Army, Accidents Will Happen, Watching The Detectives and (I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea.
Joining the A Day on the Green line-up is the recently reformed Sunnyboys, who were the mystery guest at the Hoodoo Gurus-curated event Dig It Up in Sydney in April.
The four original members - Jeremy and Peter Oxley, Richard Burgman and Bill Bilson - formed the Sunnyboys in Sydney in 1980.
Their songs Happy Man and Alone With You are considered seminal post-punk classics.
Rounding out the event's bill is Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons, Tex Perkins and the Dark Horses and ex-Sports frontman Stephen Cummings.
A Day on the Green promoter Michael Newton rates Costello's 2004 appearances amongst the highlights of the outdoor concert series' history.
“We have had some great shows over the past 12 years, with many personal highlights but this bill is definitely special to us," Newton said.
"The shows we did with Elvis in 2004 still stand out as very memorable and to have the original line-up of Sunnyboys having done only a few shows in 30 years is really special.
"On top of that to have Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons reforming especially for the tour, plus Tex Perkins and Stephen Cummings and all on the one bill is a real treat for us.
"It’s definitely a great value must-see show.”
Tickets start at $99 for general admission to platinum seating for $179.
Tickets go on sale Monday, October 29 through Ticketmaster.
