Whittaker set the new world mark of 82.5kg with a bend press in the Masters 40-44 years under-90kg division at the Global Powerlifting Committee’s Australia titles.
A personal trainer at Fit For King, in Rutherford, Whittaker said everything came together in setting the new world mark set at the Australian titles on the Gold Coast earlier this month.
“It was a great competition. It is such a thrill to set the new world mark,” she said.
“I’ve been lifting competitively for the past 18 months and will continue, although I am branching out full time with a personal training business and have to strike a balance.
“It’s a great personal achievement, and one of the great things is that it shows other people what can be achieved.
“I love empowering other people to finding out about the benefits of strength training.

“It really is the key reason I decided to go full-time in personal training. My new venture is called The Strength Project.”
On the weekend Whittaker’s focus was on giving back to the sport, handling administration and judging at an in-house competition at Fit For King.
About 40 members took part in the competition with each person getting three lifts to register their best mark.
“I think one of the important things is that people of all ages can take part and get the benefits of this type of training,” she said.
“Most of the people taking part are not aiming to become competitive. They just want to become healthier.”
