Everyone in the guild was furiously knitting for a number of weeks.
- Knitters’ guild member Joyce Fisher.
Knitted art installations have been set up on bollards, light posts, trees, tables and gates across Maitland, courtesy of Maitland Knitters’ Guild and Walka Grange Lifestyle Village.
The initiative is part of Maitland City Council’s Warming the Streets project.
The yarn bombing began before Aroma Festival on August 13.
“Everyone in the guild was furiously knitting for a number of weeks leading up to it all but now that I have had a look around Maitland I can see that it was all worth it,” knitters’ guild member Joyce Fisher said.
“I might be biased, but I think it looks beautiful.”
Council’s place activation officer Amber Herrmann said the idea was to connect people to community spaces in a safe, fun and creative way.
“We are enabling place activation initiatives across Maitland, getting local people involved in reinterpreting the built environment, and creating vibrant places and spaces all over our city,” she said.
