Council renewed its policy at a recent council meeting, stipulating guidelines for families wishing to erect roadside tributes to loved ones killed in accidents.
The policy sets the criteria for tributes including their size and scale, what materials they are made of and a ban on illuminated or fluorescent materials.
In July 2005 Ms Davis’ sons were travelling along a road in Morpeth, but lost control on a bend and ran into an oncoming vehicle. Now Ms Davis uses her story as motivation to educate young people about road safety as part of the Road Whyz program.
Ms Davis said the tributes were very important, making other drivers aware of the consequences of poor choices on the road. “For people like me they mark the spot where our loved ones took their last breath. If someone dug up my tribute, two crosses and a photo of my boys, I would have a fit.”
