The trial will take place during the off peak periods of September, October, March and April based on weather conditions and pool attendances.
The opening and closing dates for the Maitland centre will be September 24 to April 23 next year and for East Maitland, October 8 to April 9 next year.
In a report council officers said that both facilities had another busy season for 2015-2016 with a diverse range of opportunities and programs including aqua fitness, learn-to-swim classes, school carnivals swimming club and triathlon events.
The construction of the new 25 metre indoor pool is expected to have a minor impact on the next swimming season however the report said it should be ready for opening in late April, weather permitting.
Cr Robert Aitchison said the report showed a good result across both facilities with learn-to-swim attendances up 13 per cent.
