Earlier: Maitland Rams will join the city’s other sporting codes when they devote their final home game of the season to domestic violence prevention.
Earlier this month Maitland Business Chamber invited the Maitland Rams (hockey), Pickers (rugby league), Blacks (rugby union), Mustangs (basketball) and Magpies (football) to promote White Ribbon Day, which takes place on November 25.
Earlier in August the Mustangs took to the court wearing all white in support and, on Sunday, the Rams will do their bit – facing Norths wearing their white training shirts. The club will collect donations through the day.
It’ll be an important match, not only because it will be the final home game of the season, a win there will put them in contention for the top four.
“We look at sportspeople as role models,” Rams veteran Damien Schweinberger said.
“Our junior demographic needs role models to stand up and say [domestic violence] is not tolerated in our community.”
