The Blacks 32-20 loss consigned them to sixth place as The Waratahs secured a bonus point win and denied the Blacks a bonus point of their own by losing by seven points or less.
Blacks co-coach Mick Hickling said his team had given the Waratahs too big a start and were unable to bridge the gap
“It’s disappointing to bow out this way, but we have had a very good season across the club and we can hold our heads up high,” Hickling said
The Blacks seconds play University in Sunday’s elimination final at Newcastle No.2 Sportsground from 1.35pm.
Third grade, who finished second on the ladder, play Merewether Carlton on Saturday at No. 2 Sportsground in the qualification final from noon.
The Blacks Colts were minor premiers but lost in the first week of the finals.
The Blacks 4s team has two rounds to play before finals.
