Their sad eyes look at you and beg you to take them home. They just want a safe place to live and a family to love. While many animals are adopted every day from the RSPCA shelter, some have to sit and watch as their companions go to a new home.

We bring you the stories behind these animals.
Fairfax Media has heavily advocated for the adoption of pets from the RSPCA Hunter Shelter. In an effort to keep the public’s attention firmly focused on the importance of adoption, the editorial team shared the stories of the shelter’s residents through social media portraiture.
Each day, for eight days, the Maitland Mercury’s Instagram account released a new face and tale as told by those animals in the care of the RSPCA.
This project offers an insight into the reasons why the RSPCA is so critical as a welfare organisation.
