Expressions of interest for iconic Hunter wine business Hungerford Hill close on Wednesday afternoon.
The sale, through Jurd’s Real Estate, will include the architecturally designed landmark building nestled on a 22-hectare site which incorporates cellar door retail sales, a leased restaurant and winery with private function rooms.
Hunterford Hill is a premium wine brand established in 1967. Its headquarters, at the gateway to wine country on Broke Road, Pokolbin, was designed by architect Walter Barda.
The sale will also include the site’s mature vineyard and additional land zoned for wine/ tourism development.
Over the past 14 years owner James Kirby has worked hard to position the estate and its brands at the premium end of the Australian wine market.
Alan Jurd of Jurd’s Real Estate has been preparing for his best spring selling season in over a decade.
"We've had our best run since 2003 with 102 transactions in the past three months - more than 40 of them decent rural transactions," he said.
A year ago, Mr Jurd said, there would only have been international buyers in the market for properties like Hungerford Hill, which he is offering with a $6 million-plus price tag.
“Now there's some competition from city-based buyers given low interest rates and the strong Sydney property market," he said.
