Festivities kicked off with the annual Chris Mudd Memorial T20 match to honour the contributions of the late Chris Mudd to Western Suburbs and Maitland cricket in general.
It will be followed by the Kingsgrove Sports "Newcastle" Longest Hit Competition in which the district’s biggest hitters will vie for bragging rights and a cash bounty.
The City United and Wests legends game, featuring stars of the past, will start at 2pm.
The game marks City’s 100th anniversary and the Plovers 70th anniversary of participation in Maitland cricket.
