The Logie-winning wildlife documentary producer lost his battle with cancer in September, aged 65.
Hill was born and bred in Kurri Kurri and became an icon of the town.
“He was so proud of the fact that he was a Kurri boy,” Hill’s former NBN colleague Lindsay Young said.
“He might have moved to Newcastle for work but he would always be back in Kurri at every opportunity.”
Towns With Heart community projects manager Lesley Morris said a memorial to Hill would be a wonderful addition to the mural project.
“And what better place to remember Beat – Kurri Kurri, the town where he was born and where his loyalty always stayed,” Ms Morris said.
“We anticipate that the mural will be of substantial size, in a prominent position in Kurri Kurri and will be a portrait style, capturing Beat's love for animals.”
