Future Hilton Public students will soon be able to research Mongolia after students from kindergarten to year 6 put together a book and presented it to the school library.
Morpeth’s Country Women’s Association secretary, Diane Burton, said the CWA votes for a different country each year for NSW students to learn about.
“Mongolia was the overwhelming winner in the vote this year,” she said.
“We’ve been studying it for a year now, and the whole school has embraced it. It’s become an element of their geography.”
The geography class wasn’t all theory for the students, where dressing up in traditional Mongolian costumes and presenting their findings to the class was all part of the interactive learning experience.
Hinton Public School students were even presented with a white silk scarf as per the custom of visitors to Mongolia.
Ms Burton said the students went above and beyond to show off their hard work.
“Each student completed a fact sheet showing what they had learnt, which included maps, photos, drawings and general information,” she said.
Plans for a phone link call with an English speaking school in Mongolia is also on the cards for Hinton public once they return back to school.
