Parliamentary secretary for the Hunter Scot Macdonald announced on Wednesday. It will be drawn from the Hunter Region Heritage Grants program.
Mr Macdonald said the grant was designed to help communities care for their local heritage.
Maitland mayor, Cr Peter Blackmore, said the city was passionate about heritage.
“I welcome this funding from the NSW Government, which will support the council’s efforts to preserve our community’s heritage,” he said.
Heritage Minister Mark Speakman said looking after our heritage was everyone’s responsibility and local government plays an important role in maintaining heritage at a community level.
“The local government grants will enable councils across the state to fund their own small grants programs to encourage community action on the front line of heritage protection,” he said.
