Last month the Baird Government announced the government had invited Expressions of Interest from non-government hospital operators to build and deliver facilities across the state, including at Maitland and Wyong.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said this would allow facilities to be delivered faster and at a reduced cost.
A similar rally was held outside Maitland Hospital following the announcement by the Health Services Union in late September.
The Maitland Community Unions Alliance is now organising a second protest at Maitland train station to be held on October 23 from midday.
