The Maitland Embroiderers Group have created blue and pink quilts bearing messages of hope, strength and defiance in the face of cancer.
Embroiderer Ruth Higginbottom said each member of the group has either been touched personally by the disease or wanted to express solidarity with those members who had suffered.
“Cancer can not erase memories,” “Cancer can not steal humour,” and “Cancer can not kill friendship” are among the messages stitched into the fabric.
Cancer can not erase memories. Cancer can not steal humour. Cancer can not kill friendship. Cancer can not corrode faith.

“My ex-husband died last year of leukemia, I nursed him through the illness” Ms Higginbottom said.
She gestured to the patch she stitched “Cancer can not corrode faith.”
The quilts were donated to Camp Quality and Cancer Council to raffle off and raise money. To join the embroiderers or to help them raise awareness and funds for cancer, contact 4934 1373.
