Aberglasslyn trainer Jeff Jaeger takes fastest heat winner Little Black Joe (22.34s) into the $7000-to-the-winner 400 metre decider for owner Anthony Gannon and he is certain to attract plenty of support from punters.
Little Black Joe started a $1.80 red hot favourite in the first heat last Thursday on the back of impressive trial form at Maitland and Richmond.
The son of Hurricane Luke and Maggies A Legend made good use of box one to hold the rail and power away in the straight to win by four and a quarter lengths.
Neath trainer and Maitland GBOTA branch publicity officer Margaret Bright will line up with White Simba (22.65s), which she owns with her brother Mark Watts.
The son of Cosmic Rumble and Saint Dora had to cover a lot of extra ground from box eight before taking the lead on the home turn to win the last of the eight heats.
Kempsey trainer Nathan Goodwin will lead out Ahh Big George (22.75s) after he won the sixth heat for East Maitland owner David Bidner.
The son of Cosmic Rumble and Miston Belle was checked soon after the start but recovered quickly to get home by a length at the handsome price of $11.20.
The second heat went to Tiny Terror (she weighs in at only 22.4 kilograms) in 22.50s for Kings Park trainer Cheryl Betts.
The daughter of Spring Gun and Pretzel started from box four and recorded the equal fastest first section of 5.36s to win by six and three quarter lengths.
The third heat went to White Magic Opal (22.78s) for Fullterton Cove trainer Helen Rimmer.
The daughter of Black Magic Opal and Limited Edition was always well placed from box three and won at the spectacular price of $26.30.
The fourth heat went to Comatose (2.75s) for Bosley Park trainer Debbie Flint. The son of Fabregas and Graduation Girl rattled home late to win by neck.
The fifth heat went to Black Jack Opal (22.60s) for Budgewoi trainer Leslie Hudson.
The son of Barcia Bale and Glamorous Opal was only moderately away from box six and caught the early leader in the shadows of the finishing post.
The seventh heat went to Sound Advice (22.40s) for Londonderry trainer Christine Proctor, who won this race two years ago with Master Gee. The son of El Grand Senor and Katie Oi Oi recorded the equal fastest first section of 5.36s.
This year’s final has a total of $10,500 in prizemoney.
