Proceedings kick off with an opening ceremony on Friday night and carry on through to a closing lunch on Sunday.
The convention is for District 201N3, which covers 62 Lions clubs, 10 Lioness Clubs and four Leon clubs across the Hunter, Central Coast and surrounds.
The district spans from from Mudgee in the west to the coast, and from Scone in the north to Hawkesbury.
The convention will incorporate the district Lions Leo of the Year quest, with the winner to go on to the state competition.
Attendees will enjoy dinners, entertainment, keynote speakers and official duties of the annual general meeting.
Father Chris Butterworth of St Mary’s Anglican Church Maitland will also conduct a remembrance ceremony for members of Lions’ families who have died.
District Governor Rosalea Sellers, who is also part of the Lions Club of East Maitland said there has been a lot of hard work put in to hosting the event.
“There were a lot of mountains to climb,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to it with excitement and worry that everything goes to plan.”
Various venues in Maitland have hosted the convention over the past few decades, and Ms Sellers said she is glad to see it return to the Lower Hunter.
“I’m really proud to be showing off our lovely, old, historical city,” she said.
