Fisher’s devastating 12-over spell which gave the Plovers hope against Kurri Weston delivered three wickets and $30 to fundraising efforts for the palliative care service.
The young paceman declared at the start of the season that he would donate $10 to the service for each wicket he took this season and has been the driving force behind the fundraising effort.
Until Saturday he had only managed to take two wickets, but his devastating return to form could make it a successful if not costly year for the paceman, who also has two sponsors taking his tally to $30 a wicket
“That spell from Mitch Fisher was the best 12 overs of sustained fast bowling I have batted against,” Kurri Weston skipper Heinrich said after day-one of the two-day fixture at Coronation Oval between Wests and Kurri Weston.
“Mitch was on fire and we were lucky he didn’t grab more wickets.”
Fisher has been joined by clubmates Thomas Rumbel, Josh Riches and Scott Holz who have all pledged to donate $1 for every run they score this season to palliative care.
Maitland Dungog Palliative Care has been the club’s nominated charity after the death of club and Maitland cricket stalwart Chris Mudd and the care he received during his battle against cancer.
The club has held the annual Chris Mudd Twenty20 Challenge for the past five years with teams captained by his sons Lincoln and Nathan starting the season with the charity match.
This year the club is also donating a portion of funds from the sale of its 70th anniversary red and white wines at the Bradford Hotel to the palliative care service.
The fundraising efforts for various charities by the Plovers this year continues throughout November - with the ever-popular "Movember" returning.
The Plovers headed up by second grade fast bowler Matthew Shone are bringing the mo' back into style throughout the month, while also raising funds and awareness for various men's health charities.
